DUBAI WORLD CUP CARNIVAL – DAY #1 SELECTIONS
MEYDAN – Thursday 8th January
2ND – LONGINES PRIMA LUNA HANDICAP
7 – HENRY CLAY (5/1) – Likes to lead, has the best turf form.
4 – FARRIER (7/2) – Never ran on turf but ran a good race at the distance in the Jebela Ali Stakes.
8 – LE BERNARDIN (6/1) – Never ran on turf but his running style shows a liking for the surface.
2 – EL ESTRUENDOSO (6/1) – Ran 5th at a similar distance last year on opening day after shuffling back. A Good effort is expected.
3RD – LONGINES MASTER COLLECTION HANDICAP
3 – SIR MAXIMILIAN (6/1) – Always gives is best at the distance and is expected to do.
6 – SAAYERR (10/1) – Has won 2/3 race at the distance. If given the chance to race freely in front, he will be dangerous.
8 – SPEED HAWK (12/1) – One of the sleeper in this race. He has one of the highest ratings based on our calculations coming into the race and should make his presence felt.
9 – FITYAAN (30/1) – Ran 5th in this race last year and was outpaced. It was only his second start though, so with more experience under his belt. He should do better.
4TH – LONGINES SAINT IMIER HANDICAP
10 – BANNOCK (10/1) – Needs a good break and he will get it done before this race is finish. Should be closing hard if good enough.
3 – SHAISHEE (9/2) – Always run good over the Meydan track but has distance challenges. 7 furlong or less it seems is best suited. With this race being at the distance 7 furlong, a creditable effort is expected.
14 – GIFTORM (15/1) – Takes a cut back in distance for this race, which should do him some justice. He’s a very consistent horse, who has only finished twice off the board in the last 10 starts. He comes into this spot very light weighted when compared to what he has been carrying. Should be thereabouts if good enough.
13 – FAULKNER (8/1) – Unbeaten after two starts and should continue to improved. Will be dangerous if given a fair chance to run.
5TH – SINGSPIEL STAKES PRESENTED BY LONGINES CONQUEST CLASSIC GENTS
3 – MEANDRE (6/1) – Has ran in better races than most of these. If he enjoys the cut back in distance, he will be a tough nut to crack.
1 – MUSHREQ (1/1) – Expected to be favorite but is very vulnerable going the distance.
9 – PILOTE (10/1) – He will love the distance. Another sleeper on the card who could wake up and win at a nice price.
6TH – AL MAKTOUM CHALLENGE R1 PRESENTED BY LONGINES
CONQUEST CLASSIC MOON PHASE (Group 2)
15 – EMPIRE STORM (30/1) – He love the distance but his fitness level is a concern. He has hit the board in 2 of 4 starts on today’s surface but i think he might just get it right today.
4 – ENNOBLED FRIEND (12/1) – Got in a nice prep last time out for this race. He is expected to be in front the gate and hopefully can win.
1 – SURFER (4/1) – Should make his presence felt throughout.
7 – OUTSTRIP (8/1) – Has not ran well or win since his victory in the 2013 Breeders’ Juvenile turf. With the natural love for the distance present, maybe the switching of surface is a right move.
7TH – LONGINES CONQUEST CLASSIC HANDICAP
2 – TAWHID (12/1) – Liked the way he ran last time out even though he didn’t win. He will be hard to deny in this spot.
4 – ANOTHER PARTY (5/1) – A very good sprinter type colt and with the distance extended to 7 furlong it shouldn’t be a problem.
3 – SHORT SQUEEZE (6/1) – Ran 4th by 2 1/2 over the distance three starts back, he’s 11 lbs lighter and must be given a chance.
